A Detailed Look at Credit Card Processing

Credit card payments are one of the most popular methods of payment, especially in retail sales and internet sales. To optimize the advantages of receiving payments through credit cards, the processing is best handled with POS-driven business software. ManageMore supports credit card processing at the point of sale and also for accounts receivable payments. The advantages derived by this integration are:

1.Elimination of the costs of purchasing separate terminals for processing credit card information.
2.In many cases, elimination of dedicated telephone lines used for processing credit card information by utilizing existing internet connections on your computer for authorizing payments. This also has the added benefit of approving transactions nearly 10 times faster than traditional telephone dial-up.
3.Reduction of data entry errors due to wrong entry of credit card information.
4.Collection of a history of credit cards making servicing of repeat orders faster.
5.Reduction fraud by employing address verification in case of MOTO (Mail Order, Telephone Order) Sales.
6.Users can obtain approval from his/her workstation without having to go to a credit card terminal.
7.Reversals of prior approved transactions are simpler and more straightforward.

How does Credit Card Processing work?

To process credit card payments online (or any other electronic payment for that matter), there are certain requirements that must be met. You cannot simply obtain approval for the payment directly from the customer's bank. You must subscribe to a payment service like Authorize.Net or buy electronic payment authorization software like PC Charge. The payment service/software connects to the network of financial institutions through a payment gateway. Through the payment network, the customer's account is accessed and the availability of funds is verified. Finally, you are informed whether the payment is approved or not.
